A 26-year-old Papaikou man is facing a felony theft charge after police located the owner an antique pistol that was recovered during a police investigation.

A 26-year-old Papaikou man is facing a felony theft charge after police located the owner an antique pistol that was recovered during a police investigation.

Police said tips from the public led to the identity of the pistol’s owner on July 20.

Further investigation led to the identity of a suspect, Chas Akiona, who was in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center for an unrelated matter.

He was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree theft. His bail was set at $25,000.

Police subsequently returned Akiona to Hawaii Community Correctional Center where he will remain until an initial court appearance scheduled for Monday.
